A Review of Tunecore - The #1 Way to Sell Your Songs on iTunes, Napster, Sony Connect and More

Once upon a time, not too long ago, I was a musician searching for a way to let the world know I exist. Not on a huge mainstream popularity level, but I was just wanting to at least have my songs and music available to the public all over the world and easily accessible.

If you are a musician or songwriter who has recorded your music, you've probably felt the same way at some point, that is unless you have a contract with a major record label . My story went a little something like this...

  • Perform Live - Possibly Sell a Few Albums from a Table

  • Create an Website - Sell a Few Albums Via Paypal (High Fees Plus Shipping)

  • Word of Mouth - Sell a Few More Albums (Takes a While)

No matter how much I played or sang, the problem was still that only a core group of people really knew about me or my music. Even having a nice website doesn't help much, if the world doesn't know it's there.

TuneCore changed all that for me! I found out about them through some dealings in a non-profit I work with, and have nothing but good things to report about my experience.

The company TuneCore claims that they can get your music in the online stores such as iTunes, Rhapsody, Sony Connect, Napster, eMusic, and music.com. Not just Keith Urban USA, but also get your music on iTunes Australia, iTunes Europe, iTunes Japan, and iTunes Canada! All of this for what really seems to be a reasonable price. Especially considering the tens of thousands of singer/songwriters and musicians who really want to get their stuff online, but are short of bucks.

After signing up for a totally free account, I then looked around the site, and went through a few tutorial pages walking me through the process, and learned how to convert my music to the proper mp3 or mp4 format required by Tunecore. You can even use Apple's free iTunes software -

The file conversion was no big deal at all using iTunes. An album of ten songs took me about an hour to convert and upload, and I was also able to upload my album artwork (a photo of me in concert). I guess if an artist doesn't have album artwork, they could upload a photo of themselves.

All in all, it really was quite simple, and even after uploading I was hesistant to believe that TuneCore could really get my songs and album in all those online stores. The process Tunecore has to go through to distribute music to the various online stores takes some time, but my album was up and running on all the stores within about a month. Not bad...Not bad at all!

So there you have it. TuneCoreis a great option for those wanting to sell their music online at iTunes, Rhapsody, Sony Connect, and other similar stores. My album has sold copies from the iTunes and Rhapsody stores and many of the songs have also sold indiviual downloads!

Thanks Tunecore!
